When we began our arduous journey to make FIRECRACKER
I had the feeling it would an out of the ordinary experience. I
asked our marketing team at Imagemakers to capture the highs and
lows and produce a behind-the-scenes documentary. Fellow filmmakers
Joshua Kendall, Joe Martin and Ed Leboeuf joined me in documenting
the process. After reviewing the finished product, I've decided
to make the promotional DVD available to everyone. Since its primary
purpose is to promote FIRECRACKER, we will gladly ship it to media
at no cost. We ask others to help us defray the costs of shipping
and handling.
When I was starting out I had no road map for making an independent
film anywhere, let alone in Kansas. Fellow director Joel Schumacher
gave me some great advice, and I followed it. Along with my dad
and several others, we made the full length feature PEP SQUAD. With
the lessons learned in that adventure we undertook the FIRECRACKER
journey. But comparing the PEP SQUAD mission to FIRECRACKER would
be like comparing a walk in the park to Lewis and Clark's 1803 expedition.
"Wamego: Making Movies Anywhere" shows that there's a
way, not only to make movies in Kansas, but to follow any dream
to achievement and success. I hope it inspires people, no matter
how young or old, no matter where they are, to "find your dream
and go for it with gusto!"
The DVD is encoded "All Regions, NTSC."

{ Synopsis }
From the majestic prairie fires of Kansas, through
the neon glow of a carnival, to a year-in-the-life journey on making
a dream come true, this documentary follows The Balderson Family
on their pursuit to prove anyone can make motion pictures anywhere.
"Both entertaining and also highly inspirational," (planB
magazine) this movie reveals independent cinema as it really is,
on the set and off - a family of artists, celebrities and icons
taking part of the process. "WAMEGO isn't just about dreams
though, it's a statement to people that think movies can only be
made in Hollywood. It's proof that the same product, if not better,
can be made in Wamego, KS or Fayetteville, AR or even Xenia, Ohio."
(All About Town magazine)

(Kathleen Rittinghouse, Icon Magazine) read

"Literally thousands of miles away from
the world of red carpets, cocaine nose-jobs and botoxed to the bone,
anorexic 40-year-old women pretending to be 21, Wamego is a world
full of cinematic dreams and devoid of pretension."
(MITA TATE, HOFSTRA CHRONICLE) read

"4 1/2 Stars" and "There's a lesson to be learned
from the Baldersons. It also looks like they have a damn good film
on their hands, too."

Missing here are power-lunches and power-trips.
Which is a breath of that fresh Kansas air."
(AFTERTASTE MAGAZINE, NEW YORK) read

"Steve Balderson's approach to his work
is not just a
breath of fresh air - it is a gale-force wind that just may
huff and puff and blow that famous Hollywood sign down
right before the film industry's eyes."

"A constant reminder to never give up or

ethic of the Midwest.
It proves that with determination, anything is possible - even making
a feature film by yourself, in the middle of nowhere!"
(LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD)
"What was 'Lost in La Mancha' could easily
be
'Found in Wamego' ... A warmfelt, honest lesson how to realize your
dream without sharing a bed with the devil."
(PLANB MAGAZINE, NORWAY)
"Balderson serves a fat slice of humble
pie to his Hollywood peers.
The agents ignoring his calls today will be harassing his PA
tomorrow... a reality-check to inspire indie artists worldwide!"

of their own will get a little more
"
(MICRO-FILM MAGAZINE, IL)

a delicious starter for the main course."
(PLAYLOUDER, UK) read full review
The documentary, more than any other movie-in-process film,
actually demonstrates how to make a movie. Its not a tedious
and silly art school exercise, but a deep look into the thinking,
perspective and determination that a filmmaker has to have in order
to get a vision on the screen. Wamego is good story telling
A rich tale with fully developed characters, a well-developed plot
and layers of conflict
Wamego is recommended viewing
Shows those professionals from LA how things should be done.
