STUCK! is the latest creation of director Steve Balderson (WATCH OUT, SLGFF 2008), whose talent for satirical themes, clever character twists, and suspension of audience disbelief are Burton- and Tarantino-esque. In STUCK!, the innocent heroine, Daisy (Starina Johnson), is found guilty of her mother’s suicide-turned-homicide. Sentenced to die by hanging, she must finish out her days on death row with a sadistic warden, corrupt guards, cat-fighting cuties, and four hardened, flirty inmates who will “acclimate” Daisy to life behind bars. Mink Stole, Pleasant Gehman, Susan Traylor, and Jane Wiedlin bare their teeth, their nails, and more with superb talent. Perfectly cast Karen Black delivers the signature Balderson character as the neighbor-lady witness who becomes curiously fixated on the tragedy and ironically begins her own slide down the slippery slope of sanity…on the outside. Verbal sparring reminiscent of Tennessee Williams, nonstop action, and bad-girl jailhouse high jinks punctuate this jazzy noir piece, filmed entirely in black and white. Do not be STUCK! without tickets to see this modern, tongue-in-cheek twist on a classic prison movie.
