Hot Stuff: Phone Sex Filmmaker Steve Balderson’s new project is great visual and aural fodder for your slinky back lounge. Phone Sex, out on DVD, finds Balderson answering the perennial question – “What is sexy?” – by having friends and colleagues, both famous and infamous, sound off on his answering machine. Folks like Ron Jeremy, Margaret Cho, Jackie Beat, and Edie McClurg give responses that vary from ambiguous (“Sexy is an adventure”) to dry (“The small of a women’s back”) to profound (“The suggestion of sex is more sexy than actual sex”). The DVD works great as a DJ tool – your jock can drop candid phone messages from his favorite star as acappellas in his set – and as trippy visual candy, loaded with psychedelic still images. At a whopping 92-minutes long, this Phone Sex will require at least two smoke breaks. -Dennis Sebayan
